Villaricos

Villaricos

A charming fishing village with a beautiful seafront promenade and a marina at each end. This small, tranquil village is situated at the foot of the Sierra Almagrera mountains.

Villaricos (meaning rich village), derives from the ancient silver mines that first made the village its fortune in the days of the Phoenicians. A restored necropolis, or burial ground, dating from this period has recently been opened to the public.

Villaricos has two attractive beaches that are popular with the locals but are never crowded. It is also known for its warm, clear water and there are some good diving opportunities on offer with a local dive school nearby. There is also an excellent chiringuito (beach bar) on the beach, which serves delicious seafood at good prices and is not to be missed!

VILLARICOS is a charming village located on the Costa de Almeria, in the province of Almeria, in the Andalusia region of Spain. The town is situated between two rivers and is surrounded by beautiful hills, providing stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Villaricos has a rich history dating back to Roman times, and visitors can explore the remains of the ancient town of Baria, which is located nearby. The town has a small museum that showcases the history of the region, including the Roman ruins, which include thermal baths, a necropolis, and a forum.
The town has a small harbor where fishing boats come and go throughout the day, bringing in fresh seafood that is served in the local restaurants. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood dishes at one of the many restaurants lining the harbor, or sit back and relax with a drink at one of the waterfront bars.
Villaricos is also known for its beautiful beaches, which are less crowded than those in some of the more popular tourist destinations in the region. The beaches in Villaricos are ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports, and there are several secluded coves to explore.
For those interested in outdoor activities, Villaricos is a great base for hiking and cycling in the nearby Sierra de Almagro mountains. The area is also popular for scuba diving and snorkeling, with several dive centers offering trips to nearby reefs and shipwrecks.
Overall, Villaricos is a peaceful and authentic Spanish village, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural attractions, and outdoor activities that make it a must-visit destination in the province of Almeria.
